At STEEP STATE TEA, we see sustainability as an ongoing process that begins with conscious choices.

As a young tea brand, we cannot address every sustainability challenge at once. But we can take responsibility for the decisions within our control.

Our approach is guided by United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production.

The idea is simple: choose thoughtfully, use resources responsibly, and improve the way we work step by step.

Choose Thoughtfully Instead of Buying Unnecessarily

We focus on a small, carefully curated selection of six teas.

Rather than offering an endless assortment, we want to help our customers discover teas that suit their personal preferences.

Through our Tea by Weight offering, customers can explore different teas in small quantities.

This makes it possible to get to know a tea before choosing a larger standard pack.

Our goal is to encourage thoughtful purchasing decisions and reduce the risk of unnecessary or unsuitable purchases.

A Thoughtful Approach to Packaging

Packaging is necessary to protect the quality, aroma, and freshness of our teas.

At the same time, we recognise that packaging materials require resources and generate waste.

With our personalised tea selection, repeated quantities of the same tea variety are combined into a single package. Different varieties remain separate to preserve their individual aromas.

Small tasting quantities may require more packaging material relative to the amount of tea than standard packs. For this reason, we do not automatically consider personalised packaging to be a more environmentally friendly solution.

In the future, we aim to assess our material use more closely and explore ways to improve our packaging without compromising product protection.

Managing Our Stock Carefully

Tea is a natural product whose quality depends on proper storage and careful handling.

That is why we deliberately avoid excessive stock and plan our purchases according to expected demand.

In doing so, we aim to prevent tea from being stored unnecessarily long, losing its quality, or having to be discarded after its best-before date.

Careful stock planning also helps us avoid unnecessary use of packaging materials.

As we gain experience, we intend to keep improving our purchasing and inventory processes to align them more closely with actual demand.

Choosing Suppliers with Care

The quality and origin of our teas play an important role in how we select our suppliers.

We already review the available information about our suppliers and their products to the extent that our resources allow.

We pay particular attention to clear origin information, product quality, transparency, and reliable cooperation.

We favour suppliers who meet our selection criteria and aim to build stable, trust-based business relationships over time.

As STEEP STATE TEA grows, we intend to gradually strengthen our ability to assess suppliers and sourcing processes.

Small Steps. Measurable Progress.

For us, sustainability is not a finished achievement.

We want to regularly review our decisions and make improvements in areas where we can genuinely make a difference.

Our next priorities are to:

  • better track our use of packaging materials;

  • continue improving purchasing and inventory processes based on actual demand;

  • explore opportunities to use materials more efficiently;

  • communicate our progress openly, without making unsupported environmental claims.

We do not claim to have all the answers.

What matters more is taking responsibility, continuing to learn, and working towards meaningful, verifiable improvements.

United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 12 promotes sustainable consumption and production patterns.

We take inspiration from these principles within our own capabilities, through thoughtful product selection, careful inventory planning, and responsible use of resources.
